WHAT IS UX DESIGN?
I heard about UX design for two years before I actually understood what it was. I knew it had something to do with design and that was all there was to know, or so I thought. Some people said it was the older sister of graphic design, where you create the images and animate them.
What I Thought UX Design Was
At first, I believed UX design was just about visuals—colors, fonts, layouts. Basically, the creative side of things. And in a way, UX design does share some traits with graphic design: creativity, color play, visual appeal.
But UX design is not graphic design.
There’s so much more at stake, and so much more on the table with UX and UI design. It’s more than designing something beautiful; it’s designing something useful. It’s designing to make life easier for people.

A Real-Life Example of Bad UX
| A frustrated site user |
Imagine going on a website to pay your electricity bill. None of the available payment options seem to be working. You’re frustrated, desperate for a solution—and then your meter beeps, exhaling its last breath, and you’re suddenly in darkness.
You scroll down the page, looking for customer support, but there’s nothing. Then, like a blink of hope, you see the Instagram icon. It’s supposed to take you to their page so you can lay your complaint. You click. Nothing happens. You try the Facebook icon. Dead too.
All the social media buttons are just sitting there, decorative, useless, mocking your pain.
Now imagine if those buttons worked. How relieved you’d feel. That little fix could turn a moment of pure frustration into one of relief.
What UX Design Really Is
That’s what UX design (User Experience design) is all about—making the things that should make life easier actually work. It’s about reducing confusion, frustration, and wasted time when a user tries to get something done.

A UX designer thinks about how people interact with a product, what they need in the moment, and how to make that process feel seamless. It’s problem-solving wrapped in empathy.
Why UX Design Matters
UX design is not just about pixels—it’s about people. Every design choice, every layout, every button placement should help the user move forward without confusion. When done right, it’s invisible. You don’t notice good UX; you just notice when it’s missing.
This is just the beginning of my UX journey. Follow along as I share what I’m learning.
I’m so proud of you!👏
